During a severe plague among the animals the Lion calls a council to find a solution believing the plague is a punishment for their sins. Each animal confesses their sins with the powerful predators excusing themselves glorified by their actions. When the humble Ass confesses to eating a bit of grass from a priest’s field the animals condemn him as the most guilty. They quickly sacrifice him believing it will appease the gods and end the plague without remorse or ceremony.
